A better brief makes door recommendations more useful.
Start with the opening
Record approximate dimensions and specify whether you measured the door slab or the opening. Note sidelights and transoms. Do not order from photo estimates: an installer should confirm opening size, jamb, handing and swing.
Describe the look
Choose traditional, craftsman, modern, rustic or a custom direction. Note wood tone, finish, glass privacy and the architectural details you want to keep.
Explain the exposure
Include the overhang, sun and rain exposure. Warranty and protection requirements vary by product and manufacturer; some products are designed for exposures that others do not cover.
Compare quote scope
Separate slab or prehung unit, frame, finish, glass, hardware, delivery, removal and installation. Confirm timing and any exclusions directly.
